Where to go after dark in St Lucia

 

While you may have imagined your days on holiday in St Lucia lying on sands relaxing with a good book, or taking one of the many trips available… what you might not have thought so much about is the nightlife offered here! St Lucia really comes alive as the sun sets.

But don’t just assume that a vibrant nightlife means crowded clubs with flashing lights; while you will find clubs here, in reality, the nightlife of St. Lucia offers an array of different venues and styles of festivities that provide an ideal option for all travellers whatever their evening intentions.

ST LUCIA ISLAND BAR SCENE
Heading to a local bar is a great alternative any traveller who wants to enjoy a social evening of drinking without visiting a bustling night club. At J.J.’s Paradise in Marigot Bay, you’ll gather to sip on drinks while watching fire-eating shows, participate (if you choose!) in limbo contests and let loose with karaoke nights.

Another great place to visit for a few drinks is Mango’s Bar in Rodney Bay; this bar sits within the popular strip, and is a busy weekend hotspot. Other lively choices include the Happy Day Bar in Rodney Bay, the intimate Jungle Café, the unique Happy Cock, the themed Xanadu Lounge in Gros Islet and the comfortable Fire Grill & Lounge Bar, all of which provide their own unique setting and experience.

Although it doesn’t quite capture the true local island flavour, the playful vibes of Shamrocks Pub will keep you well entertained as boisterous boaters fill the venue for good music and cool beers. If you’re keen not to miss a sporting event while on your holiday, stop by the Planter’s Pub for giant television screens showing a whole range of sporting action. At Captains Cellar, patrons are invited to enjoy a hospitable English-style pub that features live musical performances. Another English-influenced bar is the Jambe de Bois known for its live jazz and violin musicians, located on Pigeon Island at Rodney Bay.


WILD NIGHTCLUBS
The ultimate way to spend a night on the town in St. Lucia is by spending an evening at one of the island’s nightclubs. For themed evenings head to the Upper Level Night Club in Rodney Bay.

Aqua, offers its guests the option to dance the night away inside the club, or to take things al fresco on the club’s popular party deck. Tourists and locals flock to Doolittle’s in Marigot Bay for live music including calypso and soul to salsa and limbo- a true Caribbean mix! Arguably boasting the most popular selection music, Indies nightclub is a St. Lucia hotspot for younger crowds of clubbers. Another favourite weekend nightclub is Rumours. This hustling venue provides the perfect mixture of music, drinks and dancing.

For a more casual nightclub interaction, consider Delirius in Rodney Bay; a laid-back venue which features a large bar, cosy garden seating and music from past generations. Combining a nightclub and restaurant, The Lime on the Bay in Rodney Bay is a local favourite that features a fusion of festive nightlife and intimate dining.

The selection of nightclubs on St. Lucia is nearly endless and while exciting clubs can be found throughout the island, you will find the bulk of the venues are located in Rodney Bay.


ALTERNATIVE NIGHTLIFE EXPERIENCES
In addition to the typical forms of evening entertainment that can be experienced on St. Lucia, the island has developed its own unique form of partying – jump-ups! These are weekly street festivities and attract flocks of tourists and locals alike. You’ll get a true taste of authentic St Lucia Island, flavour and music while enjoying a night in paradise. Streets are lined with delicious food vendors, and live music flows throughout the evening. Popular locations for jump-ups include the Gros Islet and the western shore of Anse la Raye.

Another exciting option is an evening ride on the Marigot Bay Ferry offers another exciting option, and is relatively inexpensive. You hop aboard the ferry and enjoy a scenic trip out to the Marigot Beach Clubs St Lucia Hotel’s private property which is a gorgeous tropical stretch. When you arrive, you’ll find an expansive barbeque and seafood buffet, as well as delicious cocktails and drinks. The party is hosted nearly every Saturday, and is great fun.

Other excellent things to do in St Lucia include attending an evening production at the open-air Derek Walcott Center Theatre, an evening tour and play at a historical sugar mill, ladies’ night at The Wharf, attend the fish fiestas at the seafood village of Dennery or the monthly “Creole Pot” evenings at Canaries Villages.
