Where to go after dark in Montserrat

Although Montserrat’s night scene leans more towards a relaxed drink and mingle than an all-nighter, the island still offers enough options to keep you entertained after sunset.

Whether you’re looking for a taste of the Montserratian cuisine, some Caribbean beats to dance to, or a bit of liming with the locals, the island provides a variety of nighttime activities that guarantee you an all-round Caribbean experience.

DINING
A visit to Montserrat would not be complete without a decent exploration of all its culinary offerings. Whether you’re looking for the island’s best Goat Water - the national dish -, a quick bite, or a taste of home, there are many options to keep your tastebuds entertained day after day!

If it’s the local flavours you’re after, head to Emerald Rose in St John’s, People’s Place in Fogarty Hill, Soca Cabana and Pont’s in Little Bay (with added cliff views), Nanny’s Café at Ryan’s Complex, or Sips and Bites in Davy Hill. A more modern twist on Caribbean flavours can be experienced at Java Lava Coffee Shop & Wine Bar in St Peter’s.

For the island’s very own British cuisine, go to Olveston Guesthouse or Watermelon Cottage, both in Olveston, whilst American classics can be enjoyed at Hanks Beach Bar on Isles Bay Beach, Time Out at the Marine Village, or Fogarthy Hill’s Hilltop Coffee House.

PARTYING
If you’re in mood for a little socialising, Montserrat has a few places for you to sip a local brew and get your groove on.

On Little Bay, Soca Cabana is reputed for its party spirit at weekends, including a very popular karaoke night on Saturdays, whether you’re keen to get involved or prefer to watch. If you’re after a less energetic and more relaxed atmosphere, then go to Uncles Bar in Flemming.

To mingle with the locals, get yourself in one of the traditional “rum shops”, where it is not uncommon to see Montserratians relax around a beverage or a game of dominoes. Rum shops are mostly found in Salem, St. John's, Cudjoe Head, Little Bay’s Festival Village, or Davy Hill, and tend to be more vibrant on Friday nights.

For a more boogie-orientated kind of fun, head to Salem’s Club Legend, where soca, merengue, calypso and reggae will keep you moving until the next morning. Other dancing options include Mystique, Sweeneys.
