Best beaches on the island

Despite not being known for its shoreline, there are a few places worth the trip to take in the unusual and unique scenery.

While in other areas of the Caribbean you can expect the bright white sandy beaches seen on all the brochures, the majority of Dominica's coast line features dark grey or jet black volcanic sands, although some honey-coloured sand can be found on the northeastern edge of the island. The term ‘beaches’ could also be a little misleading, as the coastal areas are pretty rocky and not ideal for sunbathing. The appeal here is the unspoilt, quiet areas where you can soak up the view, and reconnect with nature.
